Who we are
LawStuff is part of the Child Law Advice that is run by Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC), the UK’s leading children’s legal charity and part of the Coram Group of charities. We are a service that provides information and advice on areas of law to young people in England. Our website contains a wealth of free, clear, and easy-to-understand content. If extra help is needed after reading our website, we provide initial legal advice via email or telephone.
What personal information do we collect
The type of personal information we collect depends on how clients interact with our service.
Providing advice via email or telephone
We ask for this information (you don’t have to give it) in case we need it to help keep someone safe.
- Name
- Location
- Telephone number
If someone tells us that a person might be in serious danger, we might have to tell someone who can help, even if we usually keep things private.
- Email address (for email advice only)
If you ask us to give advice by email, we need your email to send it to you.
- Details of enquiry
We ask about what’s going on so we can give the right help and advice.
Feedback
- Name
- Email address
- Details of feedback
We collect this information so we can understand what you think and make our website better for everyone.
Where is personal information stored and for how long?
Case management system
When someone asks us for advice, we ask if it’s okay to keep a record about them in our safe and private system called Charity Log. This record includes things like their name, address, phone number, and what they asked about, plus the advice we gave.
If you don’t say yes, we will still make a record, but it won’t have your name or any personal details, just a summary of your question and the advice we gave.
Emails
We use Microsoft Outlook to manage and store business communications. We receive an email to our management email address ([email protected]) when a client:
- Sends a LawStuff enquiry form
- Sends feedback
- Sends a complaint
If you send us an email question but don’t agree to us keeping a client record, we will delete your email after we’ve replied or called you back. If you do agree, we will keep your emails safely for three years.
