At what age can I enter marriage or a civil partnership?
In England you can get married or enter into a civil partnership once you reach the age of 18.
A civil partnership is a legal relationship which can be registered by two people who aren’t related to each other. Civil partnerships are available to both same-sex couples and opposite-sex couples.
The UK’s Supreme Court decided on 27 June 2018 to make civil partnerships available for opposite-sex couples as well as same-sex couples.
Alternatively, same-sex couples can marry in a civil ceremony, but can only get married in a religious ceremony if the religious organisation has agreed to marry same-sex couples.
